: due to an unrestricted exhaust? Or time slips? : I have no mufflers on my NA. None. Just resonators, cats, and an H pipe. I feel faster (maybe it's the sound), but I want to know how much power I "lost". Like the others mentioned, you are shifting your powerband. You gain more mid and top end at a slight expense to low end. It's similar to adjustable camshaft sprockets. For low end, you want a smaller diameter tubing since this promotes a higher exhaust gas velocity. But, being smaller, it is a restriction in top end flow. The other end of the spectrum with a larger diameter piping (sized according to the cubic displacement of the engine) will flow better at top end but low end exhaust gas velocity slightly suffers. Personally, I don't care too much for low end, why else would I drive a 1.8L Miata LOL. Even when I had my Z I'd rather have a powerband above 4000. Just keep the revs up in the powerband and don't worry too much about low end loss .
